Wests Ashfield has been announced as finalists in four of the nine categories of the 2023 NSW Clubs & Community Awards.
The Clubs & Community Awards recognise the outstanding social contributions made by clubs in their local communities. In 2023, ClubsNSW received over 120 submissions across the nine categories of awards. Categories that Wests Ashfield projects and initiatives are nominated include arts & culture, education, heart of the community and mental & social wellbeing.
The Clubs & Community Awards are an opportunity to highlight the incredible relationships the clubs have with individuals and groups within their local communities and share their stories.
The projects that have been recognised include Wests Ashfield’s community art competition & exhibition, horse riding staff leadership program, secondary school scholarship program and thriving multicultural workforce program that honours thecultural backgrounds of the staff.
Karen Manning, an Art Teacher at Ashfield Public School says the Wests Ashfield art competition & exhibition is anticipated and planned for with much excitement and enthusiasm.
“A child seeing their work displayed in a unique, pop-up gallery in a large community venue like Wests is a privilege and an honour for both the student and their families. The generous prizes and certificates also commemorate their accomplishments and enable students to continue their artistic endeavours,” said Karen.
CEO of Wests Ashfield, Simon Cook, says he is proud of the nominations coming off the back of a trying few years in the hospitality industry post COVID-19 and is excited to be able to give even more back to the community this year.
“Serving our community is at the centre of everything we do and our reason for being in business, so it’s great to be acknowledged as a finalist to reflect the impact we have. I am eager to see what the future brings as we invest further into programs that really matter to our members.
“With everything we have achieved as a team in the last 12 months – from bringing our three venues Wests Ashfield, Croydon Sports and Markets Club under the one Holman Barnes Group to plans being well underway for the new Balmain Leagues Club, these nominations are the icing on the cake for us,” said Mr Cook.
All finalist’s stories are reviewed by an independent panel of judges, who score nominations based on a judging criteria. The Clubs & Community Awards are held yearly and will take place in Sydney on 18 May 2023. For a full list of finalists click here.
