Holman Barnes Group has been honoured as a finalist in the Fostering Grassroots Sport category at the prestigious 2025 Clubs & Community Awards, with two outstanding entries shortlisted.
This esteemed recognition highlights the group’s exceptional contributions to community development through innovative sporting initiatives and its unwavering support for grassroots engagement.

From local clubrooms in Sydney to rural communities in Tanzania, Holman Barnes Group’s efforts in 2024 reflect a year of meaningful impact, inclusivity, and unwavering support for sport at every level.

A Night of Inspiration: The 2024 Magpie Sports Awards

One of the group’s cornerstone achievements was its continued support of the Magpie Sports Awards, held at the iconic Wests Ashfield Leagues Club. Celebrating its 62nd year, the 2024 event once again stood as a beacon for grassroots sporting excellence.

The Magpie Sports Awards are more than a ceremony—they are a tradition that honours the heart of community sport. From dedicated volunteers and tireless coaches to standout athletes and spirited local teams, the event celebrates the individuals who give grassroots sport its lifeblood.

Backed by $20,000 in prize money and a $40,000 gala celebration, the evening rewarded excellence, inclusion, and leadership. Winners didn’t just receive trophies—they were also granted memberships at CSP Athletes Factory, helping them continue their athletic journey with professional support.

Throughout its history, the event has celebrated iconic Australian sporting figures such as Alan Davidson and Benji Marshall, while continuing to elevate emerging talent across a wide range of sports. This year was no exception, with an inspiring line-up of honourees reflecting the rich diversity and potential of the community.

Holman Barnes Group’s involvement underscores its deep commitment to not just recognising sporting success—but building the foundation that makes it possible.

Taking Strides for Change: The Happy Feet Project

In June 2024, Holman Barnes Group launched one of its most inspiring global initiatives yet—the Happy Feet Project, in partnership with Wests Ashfield Leagues. This community-driven campaign was designed to provide second-hand soccer shoes and clothing to underprivileged children in Tanzania, who often play barefoot on harsh terrain, exposing themselves to injury and discomfort.

The response from the local sporting community was extraordinary. Thirty-three clubs across the region came together to collect gently used gear, resulting in 84 boxes of soccer shoes and apparel being shipped overseas. The effort promoted safe play, nurtured a love of sport, and fostered a sense of global solidarity.

The project’s success was built on genuine community engagement—with donation drop-off locations, volunteer-led packing sessions, and educational outreach highlighting the importance of sustainability and compassion.

In every box shipped to Africa was a message of hope: that the power of sport knows no boundaries, and that even small acts of kindness can create a lasting global legacy.

As Holman Barnes Group stands proudly as a finalist in the 2025 Clubs & Community Awards, its dual nominations speak volumes. They recognise not just a successful year—but a sustained, values-driven approach to making sport accessible, meaningful, and impactful.

Whether it’s through the glitz and inspiration of the Magpie Sports Awards or the humble, heartfelt mission of the Happy Feet Project, Holman Barnes Group continues to embody the true spirit of community leadership.

In every initiative, there lies a consistent belief: sport can uplift, unite, and transform. And through strategic investment, passionate support, and community collaboration, HBG is ensuring that this belief becomes a reality for thousands—locally and beyond.
