Calling all young artists!

Wests Ashfield invites local primary and secondary schools to showcase the creativity of their students in our 2026 School Art Competition & Exhibition.

This year’s theme, Local Landmarks, Local Legends, invites students to celebrate the places, people and stories that make their local community special. Selected artworks will be exhibited at Wests Ashfield, with fantastic prizes up for grabs for students and their schools.

Online registration opens: Friday 11 September

What makes your community special?

From familiar landmarks and favourite local places to inspiring people and community heroes, every neighbourhood has its own stories to tell.

Students are encouraged to bring their community to life through art and explore:

What local places are instantly recognisable or special to you?

LEGENDS
Who are the people who inspire, help or bring your community together?

HISTORY
What stories from your local area deserve to be remembered?

COMMUNITY
What people, places or moments capture the spirit of where you live?

Students can bring their ideas to life through painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, pottery or mixed media.

All entries must be submitted by a teacher on behalf of their school

  1. CREATE
    Invite your students to create an artwork inspired by this year’s theme – Local Landmarks, Local Legends.
  2. SELECT
    Select the artworks your school would like to submit. Schools may submit up to six artworks per stage category, including individual and collaborative works.
  3. REGISTER
    Complete a separate online entry form for each artwork your school is submitting.
  4. PREPARE
    Prepare and mount each artwork in accordance with the Guidelines for Submission of Artworks.
  5. DELIVER
    Deliver your school’s artwork to Wests Ashfield by Friday 30 October 2026

Wests Ashfield will transform into a vibrant pop-up gallery showcasing artworks from local primary and secondary school students.

Come along and discover their interpretations of the local landmarks, local legends and stories that make our community unique.

Who can submit an entry?

Entries must be submitted by a teacher or authorised representative on behalf of their school. Students and parents/guardians cannot submit entries directly.

How many artworks can our school submit?

Schools may submit up to six artworks per stage category, including individual and collaborative works.

Can students submit collaborative artworks?

Yes. Collaborative artworks are welcome. All participating students must be listed on the entry form.

What types of artwork can be submitted?

Entries may include painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, pottery and mixed media, subject to the artwork submission guidelines.

Does each artwork require a separate entry form?

Yes. A separate online entry form must be completed for each artwork submitted.

How should artworks be prepared?

All artworks must be prepared and mounted in accordance with the Guidelines for Submission of Artworks.

When do artworks need to be collected?

All artworks must be collected by 11 November 2026. Unfortunately, we are unable to store artworks beyond the final collection date.
